QTEC Aerospace is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join our team of professionals in Huntsville, AL. The qualified applicant will become part of a team of professionals representing both industry and government. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, have a proven track record and a positive work ethic.


Job Duties/Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Provide the engineering team with application of safety policies and guidance
  • Provide support to program personnel as required as well as other system engineering tasks as required
  • Interface with team members and National Team management to ensure high quality products are generated on time and within the resources available
  • Integrate the product lines
  • Generate responsible sections of the capability specifications
  • Generate system / element level functional performance and interface specifications to document and control the achievement of the desired capabilities
  • Train less experienced personnel in SE and Safety techniques
  • Review the content and details of technical products
  • Act as a technical interface to working level counterparts on an as required basis
  • Complete Safety analysis including, Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA) and support incorporating updates into existing Safety Analysis Reports (SARs)
  • Up to 1 week of travel required in Colorado on an estimate of at least 6 times a year and possibly monthly during heavy testing support periods

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Science / Engineering discipline, or related field and minimum 5 years of related professional experience; 4 years of experience with Master's degree
  • Experience includes, increasingly responsible roles in the development and integration of large-scale Command & Control Systems

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Possess System Engineering background with specialization in System and Software Safety
  • Must have the ability to be part of an integrated team tasked with defining the physical, functional, and technical architecture necessary to describe the desired capabilities of an evolving BMDS effort
  • Identify and define desired capabilities
  • Model the interrelationships between internal and external components
  • Communicate the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users
  • Possess in depth knowledge of systems engineering concepts, principles, and techniques
  • Ability to analyze high level needs and through a structured and logical approach refine the need into an integrated set of hardware and software
  • Able to implement engineering plans within a project
  • Able to lead portions of the activity and direct the activities of junior and mid-level engineers
  • Must be a self-starter who is able to initiate research and evaluate new software development tools, processes and procedures
  • Possess the ability to work independently and the poise and flexibility required to work in a highly dynamic environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams are required in order to coordinate activities within the Development organization
  • Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings

Desired Skills

  • Experience in Battle Management and Command & Control systems with an understanding of DoD safety programs highly desired
  • Some test experience representing safety with safety critical verification is strongly desired
  • Prior experience with the missile defense domain (SBIRS, Aegis, UEWR, Patriot, etc.) or large system of systems program is also desired

Security Clearance

Candidates must currently have and be able to maintain a minimum DoD SECRET level security clearance.
